What is this converter?

Converts volume between metric units (millilitre, litre, cubic centimetre, cubic metre), imperial cubic units, and US liquid measures. All conversions pass through the litre.

Use it when:

How is this calculated?

  1. Each supported unit is defined by a fixed conversion factor relative to one base unit for the quantity (for example, the metre for length).
  2. The value you enter is first converted from the source unit into that base unit by multiplying by the source unit's factor.
  3. The base value is then converted into the target unit by dividing by the target unit's factor.
  4. Because both factors are exact constants, the conversion is a single deterministic multiplication and division — the same input always produces the same output.

Example

Converting 10 litres to US gallons.

  1. 1 US liquid gallon is exactly 3.785411784 litres.
  2. 10 ÷ 3.785411784 ≈ 2.6417.

Result: 10 litres ≈ 2.64 US gallons.

Frequently asked questions

Is this the US gallon or the imperial gallon?

The US liquid gallon (3.785 litres). The imperial gallon used in the UK is 4.546 litres — about 20% larger — and is not in this list.

Is a millilitre the same as a cubic centimetre?

Yes, exactly. One millilitre is one cubic centimetre by definition.

  • The value you enter is treated as an exact quantity — no measurement uncertainty is carried through the conversion.
